Scientists have publicized the executive summary of a study that points to the reform of the Forest Code as a retrogression that may cause grave and irreversible environmental, social and economic consequences.
Paper written by Ricardo Verdum, policy adviser of the Institute of Socioeconomic Studies, affirms the devastated effect of the Brazilian Forest Code Bill that will dramatically reduce the legal protection of the Tropical Forest in Brazil. The text was published in one of the most prestigious newspaper of the country, the Correio Braziliense.
Advisor to the Institute for Socioeconomic Studies (INESC), Ricardo Verdun participated in the seminar held recently in Brasilia to discuss the works of Belo Monte and the impacts that the mill will have on indigenous communities living in the Xingu.
The INESC’s research has demonstrated that the Brazilian government uses diverse contingency mechanisms throughout the fiscal year to delay the availability of resources and, consequently, the spending down of the budget in ministries that are relevant to fulfill rights obligations.
