December 6, 2011

From OGP

The December working level meeting will be a chance for all new OGP participating countries to share their experience to date on developing action plans and undertaking country consultations with their peers. All participants will be asked to make a short presentation in regional breakout groups. There will also be thematic sessions, and a chance to engage with Steering Committee members on their experiences developing action plans and how they went about various elements of the process earlier this year. The goal is for participating countries to come away with a clear sense of the OGP process and expectations, along with a more concrete sense of what their peers are doing/how they are approaching various challenges, and inspiration on how to proceed with elements of their own process and action plan. This will be a working level meeting of government officials directly involved in supporting lead ministers on the OGP process, along with Steering Committee members and a small group of civil society experts.

The Agenda and Logistics for the event are attached below. Registration closed on November 30. For remote participation in the meeting, please check the logistics note (at the bottom of this page) for call-in information.

Guidance on Country Presentations for Regional Breakout Sessions on December 7, 2011

All 41 new OGP member countries have been invited to participate in the peer exchange working meeting on December 7th and 8th in Brasilia, Brazil. In addition to government officials from new OGP member countries, this meeting will include OGP Steering Committee members and a small group of civil society and international experts. The objective of this meeting is to give new participating countries a clear sense of the OGP process and expectations, along with a more concrete sense of how their peers have approached different challenges and inspiration on how to proceed with their own processes and action plans.

Regional Breakout Sessions

On the afternoon of December 7th, new OGP participating countries will be asked to break into regionally organized groups to share their experience to date on developing action plans. These regional breakout discussions will be moderated by Steering Committee member governments, which will also take the opportunity (where relevant) to share their experiences developing action plans and how they addressed various elements of the multi-stakeholder process.

All government participants are kindly asked to come prepared to make a short presentation on their efforts to date to develop their action plans for these regional breakout sessions.

Presentations should be verbal and should last approximately 5 minutes. These presentations should address the following key questions:

What steps has the government taken so far to begin the country action plan development process?

What are some of the likely priority areas that the government will focus on, building off of domestic efforts to date?

How is the government planning to approach the public consultation process?
What are any challenges the government has experienced to date or anticipates going forward?

Accompanying handouts for other participants are encouraged. Please do not prepare a PowerPoint presentation, as we are aiming to keep this session as informal and engaging as possible.
